NEWBORN SESSION

Houston Newborn Photographer

Hello…

I’m Karla, the photographer behind the camera at Brittany Avenue Photography (named after the street I grew up on).  I’ve been in the photography business for ten years and photographing baby’s first year has definitely become a favorite and specialty of mine over the years.

I would love the opportunity to work with you and your family and am happy to answer any questions that you have!

xo, Karla

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once you’ve booked your session, I’ll send a prep guide that covers everything from what to wear to tips of what to do the morning of your session.  My newborn sessions are relaxed and low key.  We follow the lead of the baby for relaxed, natural posing and capture genuine moments of your family with your sweet little one.  I strive to make the session as stress free as possible so you can enjoy this time with your precious baby.

Frequently Asked Questions…

Q:  How far in advance should I book my newborn session?

A:  Most of my clients book their newborn session during their second trimester.  I book a limited number of newborn sessions each month, so this not only ensures my availability, but also gives my clients plenty of time to prepare for their session. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about after baby is born! Once I receive the contract and session fee, I’ll mark your due date on my calendar to ensure availability for your session.  Since you never know if baby will be born early or late, we won’t schedule the exact date of the session until after baby is born.

Q:  When is the best time to take newborn pictures?

A:  The ideal time is when baby is less than 2 weeks old since that’s when they sleep best.  That being said, I’ve done plenty of newborn sessions when baby is 4+ weeks old, and that is completely fine too!  Baby will be more awake for the pictures once they’re older than 2-3 weeks old.

Q:  When is the best time to take maternity pictures?

A:  I recommend doing the maternity session when you’re around 30-32 weeks.

Q:  Can Mom, Dad and siblings be included in the newborn session?

A:  Yes, family members are encouraged to be included in the session!  Most of the session will be focused on the connection between you and your baby, and I promise those are the pictures you’ll really treasure when you look back on the session years from now.

Q:  What is your turn around time for editing?

A:  After your session, I’ll narrow down the images from your session to edit and include in an online gallery.  The link to your gallery will be sent 2-3 weeks after your session (usually closer to 2 weeks, but up to 3 weeks during my busy times).   Once you view your gallery, you’ll be able to choose which collection you want to purchase, as well as any fine art prints, albums, etc.

Q:  How many images are included in a gallery?

A:  This varies with each gallery, but a typical gallery will have around 30-40 images for you to choose from.

Q:  Do you bring props etc for an in home session?

A:  For in home newborn sessions, I bring my studio light, a Moses basket for naturally posed individual pictures of baby, white blankets, wraps and headbands.  If you want to borrow a dress from my client wardrobe, I’ll bring a few dresses with me as well.  You’ll be able to view the selection of dresses I have online before your session and can let me know which dresses you want me to bring.

Q:  If I’m doing an in home session, does my home have to look a certain way?

Your house doesn’t have to be decorated any way in particular.  I do think that homes with neutral, minimal decor tend to photograph best so that there aren’t a lot of distracting things in the background.  If you’re considering an in home session and have questions about how your home will photograph, feel free to send over some pictures.

Q:  What should I wear for the session?

Once you book your session I’ll send over a Client Prep Guide that will go into detail about what to wear for your session.  You’ll also be able to view my client wardrobe online to see if you’d like to borrow any dresses for your session.

Q:  Is hair and make up included with the session?

Professional hair and make up is not included; however, I highly recommend that moms have their hair and make up professionally done for their session.  I have a few hair and make up artists that I work with that I can recommend for your session.  They will either come to your home (for an in home session) or to my studio to do your hair and make up before  your session.

Q:  Can dogs be included in the session?

Yes, your dog is more than welcome to be included in the pictures!  These are always some of my favorite pictures!
