Since fall is the most popular time for outdoor family sessions, I thought I would write a quick blog post with some tips to ensure a great family photo session!
- Plan ahead: One thing I tell all of my clients is to plan ahead for your session so that you’re not stressed out trying to finalize everything at the last minute. The Wardrobe Style Guide I send to all of my clients is really helpful with tips on where to shop, what photographs well, colors to wear and avoid, etc.
- Set expectations: This can apply to both kids (depending on their age) and spouses. Before their session, I send my clients a prep guide with some information about what to expect at their session. This information is not only helpful for you to know what to expect, but it’s also helpful to communicate to your spouse and kids (if they’re old enough) so that everyone is on the same page.
- Relax and have fun: I know the thought of a photo session can be stressful at times (especially for moms)… worrying that not everyone will cooperate, will we get enough good shots, etc. The best chance you have for a successful session is to relax and have fun with your family! It only takes a split second to capture a picture of everyone looking at the camera smiling. I know everyone wants a few of those to hang on the walls, use for Christmas cards, etc. But one day what you will really treasure most is the pictures that capture the laughs, the smiles, the snuggles and all the other sweet moments you share as a family.

Brittany Avenue Photography is a Cinco Ranch photographer that specializes in photographing maternity, newborn, babies and families.
Newborn sessions take place in my client’s home or in my natural light studio. All other sessions take place at my client’s home, outdoors or my studio. For in home sessions, I travel throughout the Houston area, including The Heights, Montrose, West University, River Oaks, Garden Oaks, Oak Forest, Katy, SugarLand, Richmond, Cypress, Spring and The Woodlands.
Scheduling update: I’m currently booking newborn sessions through March 2022. My schedule fills up quickly in the fall, so please contact me soon if you’re considering a newborn session. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have and send a sample gallery over to give you an idea of what to expect for a session.
