HOUSTON baby PHoTOGRAPHER
Brittany Avenue Photography is a Houston baby photographer that specializes in maternity, newborn and family photography in Houston and the surrounding area. Newborn sessions are offered either in studio or in my client’s home.
I’m Karla, the photographer behind the camera at Brittany Avenue Photography (named after the street I grew up on). I’m a mom to two boys (12 and 14 years old) and a sweet (but crazy) labradoodle.
If you’re expecting or just had a baby… congratulations! I know this is such an exciting time for your family!
I offer in home newborn sessions throughout the greater Houston area, including the major suburbs. Your home will be the backdrop for this session, so it’s a great way to document that nursery you spent hours getting ready. We’ll focus on family pictures and the connections you have with your baby. We’ll also take some individual pictures of baby, using the crib or any special blankets you might have. I’ll also bring some neutral wraps, blankets and headbands for baby.
Keep reading for more information about an in home newborn session. (If you decide that a studio session would be a better fit for you, I offer those too! You can click here for more information about a studio newborn session).
Houston Baby Photographer - Session details
I. PLANNING YOUR SESSION
From wardrobe styling to hair and make up, I help my clients plan every detail of their session. As soon as you book your session, we’ll get started planning, starting with what to wear. I have some dresses in my client wardrobe that are available for clients to borrow for their session, which is a great option for last minute sessions when there’s no time to shop! Or if you want to wear something of your own, I have a Wardrobe Style Guide that I send to all of my clients that gives so many helpful tips… what style photograph best for new moms, where to shop and even some links to pieces that are available to purchase online.
II. THE SESSION
Newborn sessions typically last 2-3 hours. The session is very relaxed. We won’t be taking pictures the entire time, but we’ll take time for breaks or to soothe or feed the baby if needed. I’ll bring a studio light if needed and some neutral wraps, blankets and headbands for baby. The session includes individual pictures of the baby and pictures of the baby with family.
III. AFTER THE SESSION
Two weeks after your session you’ll receive a link to an online gallery where you can place an order for the collection you want, as well as any products you’d like to order from my professional lab.

Houston Baby Photographer- Frequently asked questions
I recommend booking your session at least 3 months in advance to ensure availability and give us plenty of time to plan all the details. Once you decide to move forward with booking a session, I’ll send over the contract and session fee invoice. Once I receive this from you, I’ll put your due date on my calendar to reserve your spot, but we won’t schedule the exact date of the session until after the baby is born since you never know if they’ll be born early or late.
I schedule newborn sessions on weekdays at 10:30. Occasionally weekends may be available for an additional charge.
II. When is the best time to do the newborn session?
I typically recommend doing the newborn session when the baby is around 7 to 10 days old since that’s when they sleep best. However, I’ve done plenty of “older” newborn sessions up to 6 weeks old, and I love this age too! Typically for “older” newborns we may be able to capture a few sleeping pictures as well as some pictures where the baby is awake.
III. What is the cost of a newborn session?
Studio newborn sessions start at $750 for the session + high resolution digital images. A $250 session fee is due at booking and the remaining balance is due when you receive your gallery. Clients also have the option of purchasing products through my professional lab. Heirloom albums are one of the most popular items for newborn sessions. Please contact me for more detailed pricing information.
IV. Do you sell the digital images?
Yes, I do! You’ll be able to choose from a few collections, all of which include the digital images + products from my professional lab.
V. Is there a discount if I book multiple sessions?
Yes! Clients have the option of either booking a single session or a membership. If you plan to do two or more sessions during baby’s first year (including maternity) then it would make the most sense to book the membership. Contact me and I’ll be happy to send you all the details.
VI. What are your COVID policies?
One the most important things for me as a photographer (ranking right up there with providing my clients amazing service) is ensuring the safety and health of my clients. I am vaccinated and I wear a mask for all newborn sessions. For outdoor sessions, I will wear a mask if requested by the client. Clients are not required to wear masks. If I am experiencing any cold symptoms, I will reschedule the newborn session since there are many viruses (including COVID and RSV) that can be dangerous for a newborn. If a family member in my house has COVID, we will also reschedule the newborn session. If you have any questions regarding these policies please let me know!
VII. Is hair and make up included with the session?
Hair and make up is not included, but I have a few hair and make up artists that I’ve worked with in the past the I refer my clients to.
VIII. What are some of your favorite places to shop for maternity or newborn sessions?
My Wardrobe Style Guide that I send to all of my clients has lots of suggestions about where to shop. If I had to narrow it down to one store for moms, I would probably say Baltic Born because they have so many options that are in stock.
