Kind words
“Karla was amazing to work with…
From booking the session to receiving the final product, she made everything easy. She made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and took time to console our tired newborn when she needed some extra love. We absolutely love our photos and will treasure these special moments forever.”
–The Pham family

Hi there!
I’m Karla, the photographer behind the camera at Brittany Avenue Photography (named after the street I grew up on). If you’re expecting or just had a baby… congratulations! I know this is such an exciting time for your family. One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to know the families I photograph and getting to watch little ones grow over the years. In the 13 years I’ve been photographing newborns and families, I’ve learned there are 3 things moms have in common when planning their photo session.
1. Stressing about what to wear: I’ve got you covered on this one! I have a client wardrobe with dresses that are flattering for new moms and a Client Style Guide that will help you pick out everyone’s outfits.
2. Worrying that your baby or kid(s) won’t cooperate for the session: I get it- you’ve got this tiny window for the stars to align and for everyone to cooperate. Some things are out of control, but there are a lot of things that you can control, and I’ve got tips to follow before and during your session to make sure everything goes smoothly. Is it going to be perfect? Of course not, because life isn’t perfect! But I promise you if you relax and enjoy the time with your family, you’ll come away with images that you’ll treasure.
3. Not sure what to do with the images from the session: Ok, honestly a lot of moms aren’t giving much thought to this, but unfortunately if no one is giving any thought to this, then your priceless images will just sit on your phone or computer. My Product Guide will give you lots of ideas about how you can display your photos so you can enjoy them for many years.

The Details
I. PLANNING YOUR SESSION
From wardrobe styling to hair and make up, I help my clients plan every detail of their session. As soon as you book your session, we’ll start to plan all the details, starting with what to wear. I have some dresses available for moms to wear in my client wardrobe, which is a great option for last minute sessions when there’s no time to shop! Or if you want to wear something of your own, I have a style guide I send to all of my clients that gives so many helpful tips… what styles photograph best for new mom, wear to shop and even some links to pieces that are available to purchase at some of my favorite online stores.
II. THE SESSION
Newborn sessions typically last 2-3 hours. (Petite sessions are 1 hour) The session is very relaxed. We won’t be taking pictures the entire time, but will have plenty of time to feed or soothe baby if needed. The session includes individual pictures of the baby and pictures of the baby with family.
III. AFTER THE SESSION
Within 3 weeks of your session you’ll receive a link to an online gallery where you’ll be able to download the high resolution digital images and have the option of ordering prints or products from my professional lab.

Frequently Asked Questions
I. When should I book my session?
I recommend booking your session at least 3-4 months in advance to ensure availability and give us plenty of time to plan all the details. If you want to book a session, I’ll send over the contract and invoice for the deposit. Once I receive that from you, I’ll put your due date on my calendar to reserve your spot, but we won’t schedule the exact date of the session until after the baby is born since you never know if they’ll be born early or late.
I schedule newborn sessions on weekdays at 10:30 AM. Occasionally weekends may be available for an additional fee.
II. When is the best time to do the newborn session?
I typically recommend doing the newborn session when the baby is around 7-10 days old since that’s when they sleep best. However, I’ve done plenty of “older” newborn sessions up to 6 weeks old and I love this age too! Typically for “older” newborns we may be able to capture a few sleeping pictures as well as some pictures where baby is awake.
III. Do you sell the digital images?
Yes! The session comes with the high resolution digital images, which you may print at the lab of your choice. Clients also have the option of purchasing products from my professional lab. My clients love heirloom albums for the newborn session, and many choose framed pictures as well.
IV. Do you offer a discount for multiple sessions?
Yes, I do! Clients have the option of either booking a single session or a membership. If you plan to do two or more sessions during baby’s first year (including maternity) then it would make the most sense to book the membership.
Contact me and I’ll be happy to send you all the details.
V. Is hair and make up included with the session?
Hair and make up is not included, but I have a preferred hair and make up artist that I’ve work with that I refer my clients to.
VI. What are some of your favorite places to shop for maternity or newborn sessions?
My Wardrobe Style Guide that I send to all of my clients has lots of suggestions about where to shop. If I had to narrow it down to one store for moms, I would probably say Baltic Born because they have so many options that are in stock.
