KATY NEWBORN
photography studio
Brittany Avenue Photography is a Katy newborn photography studio that specializes in maternity, newborn and family photography in Houston and the surrounding area. The studio is located just west of Houston in the historic downtown area of Katy.
Brittany Avenue Photography was established in 2012 and was chosen as one of Houston’s best newborn photographers by Expertise in 2021 and 2022..
Hi there!
I’m Karla, the photographer behind the camera at Brittany Avenue Photography (named after the street I grew up on). I’m a mom to two boys (11 and 13 years old) and not pictured is my sweet (but crazy!) labradoodle Gracie.
If you’re expecting or just had a baby… congratulations! I know this is such an exciting time for your family. I love being able to capture this special time for families. My favorite part of my job is getting to know each and every family I photograph and it’s so fun for me to watch little ones grow over the years.
I have a photography studio in Katy (just a short drive from Houston) and I also do in home newborn sessions. You can read more about the studio newborn session below. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Kind words
“Karla was amazing to work with…
From booking the session to receiving the final product, she made everything easy. She made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and took time to console our tired newborn when she needed some extra love. We absolutely love our photos and will treasure these special moments forever.”

The Details
I. PLANNING YOUR SESSION
From wardrobe styling to hair and make up, I help my clients plan every detail of their session. As soon as you book your session, we’ll start to plan all the details, starting with what to wear. I have some dresses available for moms to wear in my client wardrobe, which is a great option for last minute sessions when there’s no time to shop! Or if you want to wear something of your own, I have a style guide I send to all of my clients that gives so many helpful tips… what styles photograph best for new mom, wear to shop and even some links to pieces that are available to purchase at some of my favorite online stores.
II. THE SESSION
Newborn sessions typically last 2-3 hours. The session is very relaxed. We won’t be taking pictures the entire time, but will have plenty of time to feed or soothe baby if needed. The session includes individual pictures of the baby and pictures of the baby with family.
III. AFTER THE SESSION
Around 2 weeks after your session you’ll receive a link to an online gallery where you can place an order for the collection you want as well as any products from my professional lab.
Investment
The investment is simple. A $250 session fee is due at booking to reserve your session. Then choose from our collections, which include digital images and a product credit.

Katy Photography Studio- FAQ's
I. When should I book my session?
I recommend booking your session at least 3-4 months in advance to ensure availability and give us plenty of time to plan all the details. If you want to book a session, I’ll send over the contract and invoice for the session fee. Once I receive that from you, I’ll put your due date on my calendar to reserve your spot, but we won’t schedule the exact date of the session until after the baby is born since you never know if they’ll be born early or late.
I schedule newborn sessions on weekdays at 10:30 AM. Occasionally weekends may be available for an additional fee.
II. When is the best time to do the newborn session?
I typically recommend doing the newborn session when the baby is around 7-10 days old since that’s when they sleep best. However, I’ve done plenty of “older” newborn sessions up to 6 weeks old and I love this age too! Typically for “older” newborns we may be able to capture a few sleeping pictures as well as some pictures where baby is awake.
III. Do you sell the digital images?
Yes! All of my collections include high resolution digital images from the session. My clients also have the option of purchasing products from my professional lab. My clients love heirloom albums for the newborn session, and many will also choose framed pictures as well.
IV. Do you offer a discount for multiple sessions?
Yes, I do! Clients have the option of either booking a single session or a membership. If you plan to do two or more sessions during baby’s first year (including maternity) then it would make the most sense to book the membership.
Contact me and I’ll be happy to send you all the details.
V. What are your COVID policies?
One the most important things for me as a photographer (ranking right up there with providing my clients amazing service) is ensuring the safety and health of my clients. I am vaccinated and I wear a mask for all newborn sessions. For outdoor sessions, I will wear a mask if requested by the client. Clients are not required to wear masks. If I am experiencing any cold symptoms, I will reschedule the newborn session since there are many viruses (including COVID and RSV) that can be dangerous for a newborn. If a family member in my house has COVID, we will also reschedule the newborn session. If you have any questions regarding these policies please let me know!
VI. Is hair and make up included with the session?
Hair and make up is not included, but I have a few hair and make up artists that I’ve worked with in the past the I refer my clients to.
VII. What are some of your favorite places to shop for maternity or newborn sessions?
My Wardrobe Style Guide that I send to all of my clients has lots of suggestions about where to shop. If I had to narrow it down to one store for moms, I would probably say Baltic Born because they have so many options that are in stock.
