Maternity Session Information

When first time moms are starting to look into maternity photography, they often have many questions such as when to book and what to wear. In this post, I’ll cover some of the most common questions I get from expectant moms wanting to schedule a maternity session.

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY MATERNITY SESSION?

I recommend doing your maternity session when you’re around 28-32 weeks. This is a great time where your baby bump is well defined, but you’re not so late in your pregnancy that you’re uncomfortable. Some moms will do the session a bit later, but I recommend waiting too late since you never know if you’ll be put on bed rest the last weeks of your pregnancy. Be sure to reach out early in your second trimester to ensure availability.

WHERE WILL THE MATERNITY SESSION TAKE PLACE?

I offer maternity sessions in studio and outdoors. The studio is an all white background with lots of windows and natural light and is a great option year round. You don’t have to worry about the Houston heat or humidity during the warmer months, or the rain or cold weather.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY MATERNITY SESSION?

Once my clients book their maternity session, I’ll send over a style guide that goes over what to wear for your session. I have some dresses available in my client wardrobe for clients to borrow if they’d like, or if you want to wear something of your own I have suggestions on what photographs best and where to shop. Maxi dresses are always a flattering option for maternity sessions. If you want to do some casual pictures, you can wear your prepregnancy jeans unbuttoned with a top.

IS HAIR AND MAKE UP INCLUDED IN THE SESSION?

Hair and make up isn’t included in the session; however, my preferred hair and make up artist is available to either come to the studio for your hair and make up, or can travel to you to do your hair and make up before your session.

HOW MUCH DOES A MATERNITY SESSION COST?

The session fee is paid at booking to book your session, and then you can choose which collection you’d like to purchase when you view your gallery (around 2-3 weeks after your session). I do offer a discounted session fee for clients that sign up for both a maternity + newborn session, or Baby’s First Year Plan. You can fill out my contact form and I’ll be happy to send over all the details and answer any questions you may have.

Family Scheduling update: I’m currently scheduling milestone and family sessions through August 2023. Studio sessions may be booked through August. Outdoor sessions may be booked through May and then will resume in September- Outdoor sessions are not scheduled during the summer due to the Houston heat and humidity.

Newborn Session Scheduling update: I’m currently booking newborn sessions through July 2023. My schedule fills up quickly, so please contact me soon if you’re considering a newborn session. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have and send a sample gallery over to give you an idea of what to expect for a session.
