3 things to consider when deciding whether to your session in home or in the studio
As a new mom or mom-to-be, this may be your first time hiring a photographer (other than your wedding photographer). Or maybe you’ve hired a photographer before but you’re not exactly sure what to look for when hiring a photographer. I’ve been in your shoes before, and I know it can feel overwhelming to find a photographer that’s the right fit for your family. These are precious memories that you can’t get back, so it’s important that you make the right decision for YOUR family when hiring a photographer. Here are some things you might want to consider:
1. Does the photographer’s style match up with what you’re looking for? For example, what is their editing style (light and airy vs. dark and moody), what colors do their photos gravitate toward… If your home is decorated in mostly light colored neutrals, you probably don’t want to hire a photographer that specializes in bright, colorful photos, or dark and moody photos. Another example, is the photographer’s style more posed or lifestyle, or a combination of both?
2. How involved is the photographer throughout the process? Do they just show up to the session, take the pictures and then hand off the digital files to their clients a couple of weeks later? Or do they guide their clients throughout the process, from the planning stage through delivering their beautiful prints?
3. Is the photographer’s pricing in line with your budget? Every photographer prices their sessions differently… some are all inclusive (one amount that includes the session + digital images), others charge a session fee and offer collections separately. Make sure you have a clear understanding of the photographer’s pricing, and make sure that your budget is realistic and in line with your expectations. The more involved a photographer is throughout the process (from planning to ordering heirloom products, etc) the more they will charge to account for their time.

Classic and Timeless
If I had to summarize my style I would say it’s light and airy, classic and timeless. Of course, the colors I gravitate toward are neutrals and soft pastel colors, which are timeless and won’t go out of style. I take a combination of some posed pictures and some lifestyle/ natural pictures. As far as newborn photography goes, I love capturing natural moments of moms and dads with their sweet baby, but I also capture naturally posed pictures of babies that focus on all of the details that make them unique.
The Session Experience
From wardrobe styling to hair and make up, I help my clients plan every detail of their session. As soon as you book your session, we’ll start to plan all the details, starting with what to wear. I have some dresses available for moms to wear in my client wardrobe, which is a great option for last minute sessions when there’s no time to shop! Or if you want to wear something of your own, I have a style guide I send to all of my clients that gives so many helpful tips… what styles photograph best for new mom, wear to shop and even some links to pieces that are available to purchase at some of my favorite online stores.
Investment
A $250 session fee is due at booking to secure your session, and then you choose a collection to purchase after your session. Collections include the digital images + a print credit that can be applied toward fine arts prints, framed prints or an heirloom album. Please contact me for a full price list.

When to schedule
I recommend scheduling your newborn session during your second trimester to ensure availability. Be sure to contact me a couple of months in advance to ensure availability for your session.
Frequently asked questions
I. Is there a discount if I book multiple sessions?
Yes! Clients have the option of either booking a single session or a membership. If you plan to do two or more sessions during baby’s first year (including maternity) then it would make the most sense to book the membership. Contact me and I’ll be happy to send you all the details.
II. What are your COVID policies?
One the most important things for me as a photographer (ranking right up there with providing my clients amazing service) is ensuring the safety and health of my clients. I am vaccinated and I wear a mask for all newborn sessions. For outdoor sessions, I will wear a mask if requested by the client. Clients are not required to wear masks. If I am experiencing any cold symptoms, I will reschedule the newborn session since there are many viruses (including COVID and RSV) that can be dangerous for a newborn. If a family member in my house has COVID, we will also reschedule the newborn session. If you have any questions regarding these policies please let me know!
III. Is hair and make up included with the session?
Hair and make up is not included, but I have a few hair and make up artists that I’ve worked with in the past the I refer my clients to.
IV. Do you sell the digital images?
While I realize the importance of digital files in this digital world that we live in today, I also think it’s important for my clients to walk away from their session with high quality, tangible heirloom products to preserve their portraits. In addition to selling digital files, I also offer heirloom albums, fine art prints and custom framed fine art prints.
V. What are some of your favorite places to shop for maternity or newborn sessions?
My Wardrobe Style Guide that I send to all of my clients has lots of suggestions about where to shop. If I had to narrow it down to one store for moms, I would probably say Baltic Born because they have so many options that are in stock.
