Babies change so much during their first year. Just think, at their newborn session they are so new to this world and so dependent on mommy and daddy. Little by little throughout the year, they gain more independence by learning new skills like sitting up on their own and eventually standing and walking! They also start to show more of their personalities and express their own opinions when they like or dislike something.
It may not feel like it at the time, but baby’s first year flies by. As the mom of a ten and twelve year old, trust me… you can’t get this time back and you’ll never regret capturing these fleeting moments. Some clients like to schedule a session every 3 months during baby’s first year to capture all of these changes. I recommend at the very least scheduling a session for three major milestones during baby’s first year: a newborn session, six months/ sitter session and a one year session.
I’ve said many times that sitter sessions are one of my favorite type of sessions! Babies are usually so happy and easy going at this age. Plus they’re not able to move around on their own yet, which makes it pretty easy to get some great pictures of them. Once they start crawling/ walking they’re on the go and don’t want to stay still for pictures!
I recommend scheduling sitter sessions when baby is able to sit up on their own unassisted, around 6-7 months old. Some parents want to do the session right at 6 months, whether baby is sitting up on their own yet or not. That’s okay too… I have some baskets I can bring to help baby sit up, and tummy time pictures are cute at this age too! This session is really about capturing baby’s personality, and it’s so fun to see them interacting with parents and siblings too.
Here are a few favorites from a recent sitter session…
